Analytic Support to the UN Foundation Bioenergy Initiative: Central America and the Caribbean
Both Caribbean and Central American (CAR/CA) nations face unique challenges associated with the generation and use of energy. Most of these countries depend almost exclusively on imported petroleum for their energy; including both electricity generation and transportation.Biomass represents a significant and relatively untapped potential throughout CAR/CA regions and there is growing interest on the part of many of these nations to explore and develop these resources on a more aggressive and urgent basis. In support of the United Nations Foundation (UNF) work in bioenergy, ESG is conducting data collection and analysis focusing on activities in Central America and SmallIsland nations, with a particular focus on the Caribbean.ESG participates in data collection, data base development, and analysis to identify near- and mid-term opportunities for bioenergy in the CAR/CA regions, including for power, heat, and transport applications.
